#78, clear acrylic on clear acrylic panel, 6 x 6”
(I envisioned Endangered as an exhibition about our disconnection from nature and the inevitable tragic outcome, a continuation of Seton’s warnings. The invited artists created a variety of responses. Intended for the walls of the Seton Gallery, the show is presented in a series of blog postings. Images and text copyright belong to the individual artists. dlw)
Does the artwork ever speak for itself? I think generally not. The artist, however, as in this case, can give guidance as Greg Smith does below. (A short video of the artwork follows.)
Endangered Note by the Artist
Life is always in a state of appearing/disappearing –
We, too, appear and disappear –
My paintings do the same.
There is no secure state –
We are in danger from our first breath
