Highlights of the Academy collection of Seton Drawings and Paintings

The fox pretending that he is a stone by Ernest Thompson Seton

ALL #0634 Reproduction plate for printing with added Pen & Ink highlights. 8.4 x 16.8 cm. The fox, at the center of the composition, has two defined pointed ears. The animal is curled to look like a rock. By contrast, the rocks are angular. Foxes can hide in plain sight this way. Foxes also curl up to keep warm, sometimes using their brushy tails as a pillow or alternatively as a blanket over the nose.
